The Hobart Apartments represent a significant step in the University of Tasmania’s move to increase their presence within Central Hobart.
The building provides 433 rooms for students, as well as the Peter Underwood Centre for Educational Attainment. Initially engaged in 2013, Ireneinc provided services for the planning assessment, lodgement and management of various consultants for the development. Subsequent changes and refinements to the development and its tenants have resulted in Ireneinc’s ongoing involvement with the development.
Situated on the edge of the Hobart Central Business Area, the site included and is surrounded by a number of heritage buildings. Ongoing consultation with Council was integral to the approval process, as well as preparation of a considered response in relation to the buildings sensitive urban locale. The complexity of the planning process was contributed to with the number of properties, land owners, and various site constraints that needed coordination.
Ireneinc ensured that documentation was assembled to Council’s satisfaction for planning approval. Collaborating on the project with Ireneinc were architects Terroir and Fender Katsalidis, Austral Tasmania, Gandy & Roberts Consulting Engineers, GHD, Graeme Corney Architect and Heritage, Engineering Solutions Tasmania, PDA Surveyors, Peter Freeman Traffic Solutions, Leigh Woolley Architects and Urban Design.
