The Hotel development at 179 Macquarie Street originated as early as 2017, when an application was made by a previous landowner. That application was appealed, and the site was sold to Fragrance Group.
Upon the sale of the property, Ireneinc were engaged to assist in the preparation of a revised development application on the site for a similar scale Hotel, comprising of 206 rooms with associated conference and guest facilities.
The key planning considerations for this proposal was its adjacency to a heritage listed property and associated infrastructure works across several separate titles. The hotel was designed to mitigate impacts on adjoining heritage buildings by setting the taller elements back from the southern boundary and incorporating a three-storey podium element to the frontage, consistent with the general height of adjoining buildings within the streetscape.
