Myer Redevelopment, Hobart

This development application is for the prominent site at the centre of the city of Hobart which has remained vacant since 2008 when a fire devastated the retail store. The preparation of the application has required careful urban design analysis of streetscape elements, to ensure that the proposed new development created a positive addition to this historic Hobart streetscape.

The proposal is comprised of pedestrian linkages and from Murray Street to Liverpool Street and the Cat and Fiddle Arcade, a three-level internal shopping arcade with a stimulating mix of commercial uses including speciality shops, food hall, national retail outlet, and a 150 – 200 bed 4.5 to 5 star city hotel with roof top bar and green roof. The form the building has emphasised preserving active uses all around the perimeter of the site in Murray Street and Liverpool Street with shops, lobbies, hotel foyer.

Planning involvement with the project involved working with interstate and local architects, Council and a variety of other consultants.
